Scope and Content

This series contains English transcriptions of the Italian Senate speeches from 1914-1918. The speech files represent the reaction from individual senator’s concerning Italian foreign policy and specifically debates over Austro-Hungarian aggression, neutrality, and the declaration of war in May of 1915. The bulk of these speech files are in response to Atti degli Camera, who served as the Deputy Senator to Rome from 1914-1922. Italy declared war in May of 1915, siding with the Allied forces that included France, Great Britain, Japan, and the United States.
