Clippings, 1977-2002
Series Scope and Content Summary
This series consists of public relations materials including press releases, speeches, newspaper clippings, photographs, memorabilia, and awards. The bulk of this collection consists of publicity photographs of Hayes, taken at various events during her tenure in office.
Researchers interested in women's political history will find this series of note as there are several items documenting the historical significance of Hayes' mayoralty. One such item is a news article about Hayes from a Swiss newspaper, demonstrating the international interest in her election. Photographs in this series also document the rapport Hayes had with President Jimmy Carter and First Lady Rosalynn Carter; there are several photographs of Hayes with the Carters at the White House, at the U.S. Conference of Mayors, as well as in San Jose.
