Series Scope and Content Summary

From the Series:

The Women's Studies Program vigorously promoted the study of women in the core curriculum at SJSU, provided leadership to the other CSU campuses, maintained a national presence on issues related to women, and worked collaboratively with the National Women's Studies Association. This series documents the activities, programs, organizations, and scholarship of the faculty and students. Some of the formats represented include audio/visual and photographic materials, memorabilia, outside organization and program files, promotional material, and writings and bibliographic sources from students and faculty. They also collected program and newsletter information from other CSU campus programs and local and out-of-state universities, as well as from women's organizations such as the Association of Women in Science, the Berkshire Conference of Women Historians, and the Coalition of Labor Union Women. The WSP also participated on the Santa Clara Commission on the Status of Women, produced survey reports, tracked legislation, and followed the development of other commissions in the state and nationally. Of special note in this series is a letter from Astronaut Sally Ride and a poster of an SJSU event she appeared at (Box 10, folder 474).
