The material in this series documents Frank C. Cleary’s experience in the oil fields, Ernest W. Cleary’s experiences in school, on backpacking trips, notes on his correspondence with family and friends, and personal writings like memoirs, poems, and stories. Many of Dr. Cleary's compositions refer to his experiences settling with his family in Pleasant Valley, CA, and exploring and cultivating the wild terrain. Also included are documents of Mary Edna Cleary’s experiences and notes on household affairs. This series includes Dr. Ernest Cleary's experiences during World War I at General Hospital No. 9 in Lakewood, New Jersey and the groundbreaking advances to orthopedic medicine developed by Dr. Cleary and his colleagues. It also contains indexes and inventories of Dr. Cleary’s personal library, photographs and other household possessions.
