Oversize Photographs, 1878-1981
Series Scope and Content Summary
This series consists of original and reproduction prints, oversize prints, panoramas, negatives, slides, reproduction drawings, and newspaper and magazine clippings depicting the campus, buildings, faculty, students, and events of San José State University, and its previous incarnations: San José State College, San José State Teachers College, and the California State Normal School in San José. Also in the collection are images of people, places, and events in San José and Santa Clara County. If the photographer or creator is known, he or she will be listed in the description.
This collection provides an array of images documenting San José State University. Of note is a set of photographs taken shortly after the 1906 Earthquake, depicting damage done by the earthquake in San José. Also of note are group photographs of some of the drama societies of the early 20th century, and of early 20th century San José State student life such as May Fete and Spardi Gras.
Series Notes:
The San José State University Archives holds a small collection of documents related to George E. Stone (folder 76) and a separate collection of his photographic slides.
