Hazel McIntosh Kuhlman Personal Items, circa 1922-1972
Scope and Contents
The Kuhlman Family Papers (1888-1972) follows the lives of Harry Kuhlman (1893-1972) and Hazel McIntosh (1892-1974). Though the couple is mostly known for their generous donation to the California State University, San Jose through the sale of their estate, the collection’s contents do not contain much information about the Hazel and Harry Kuhlman Scholarship Trust. The collection’s contents do include many of their personal papers from their early lives, such as a newspaper clipping about Harry Kuhlman’s recruitment into the Aviation Corps and Hazel McIntosh’s papers from her primary and secondary schooling as well as her education at the California State Normal School. Also included are some papers from Hazel McIntosh’s teaching career as well as some papers that belonged to Hazel’s mother, Alice McIntosh, who was also a teacher. There are some items having to do with the Kuhlman marriage as well as some other documents highlighting Harry’s retirement and his death in 1972. Accrual on October 2023 added photographs, photographic negatives, a photo album, and a paper doll to the collection.
