Scope and Contents

This series comprises promotional materials divided into five subseries by subject matter. Subseries 1. Civil Rights and Protest consists of documents, buttons, flyers, pamphlets, and ephemera by organizations and individuals in support or against the political activity during the civil rights movement in the late 1960s to early 1980s. Subseries 2. Conferences, Events, and Programs includes posters, booklets, flyers, programs, and audio cassettes from events Harry Edwards guest lectured at, was featured in, or attended. Subseries 3. Exhibitions consist of poster boards and posters used in San José State University exhibitions, including the 2018 educational equity series, 2012 Legacy Week, and the 2016/2018 “Power of Protest” exhibitions. Sub-series 4. Press Releases consist primarily of press releases by the organizations with vested interest in the civil rights movement and the protest at the 1968 Mexico City Olympics. Subseries 5. Sports and Athletics contains posters, schedules, booklets, and questionnaires published by the Olympics, the San Francisco 49ers, and the Golden State Warriors.
