Scope and Content of Collection

The Wings of History Aerial Photographic Collection, 1936-1941 contains photographic negatives and prints of aerial images of San Francisco, Santa Clara Valley and Monterey Bay communities. Towns, prominent buildings and landmarks in Santa Clara Valley and San Francisco are typical targets, and of note are prominent institutional structures such as the Lick Observatory, Agnew State Mental Hospital – East Area, Alum Rock Natatorium, Spartan Stadium, Golden Gate Exposition and the bridges of San Francisco.

Organizational History

The Wings of History Museum of San Martin, California began as the Northern California Antique Aircraft Association in 1962. A local flight club, the NCAAA organized a local fly-in which has in 30 years become the Watsonville Fly-in and Air Show. Proceeds from the fly-in were used to purchase the land and build facilities for what is now the Wings of History Musuem.

Abstract

The Wings of History Aerial Photographic Collection contains photographic negatives and prints of aerial images of San Francisco, Santa Clara Valley and Monterey Bay communities. Towns, prominent buildings and landmarks in Santa Clara Valley and San Francisco are represented. Of these, some of the structures of note include the Lick Observatory, Agnew State Mental Hospital – East Area, Alum Rock Natatorium, Spartan Stadium and the bridges of San Francisco.
