Scope and Content of Collection

The National Propaganda Collection, 1933-1947 (bulk 1937-1940), documents English-language propaganda directed towards the United States in the years before, during, and after World War II. The records consist of pamphlets and booklets produced by or on behalf of Italy, Japan, Poland, and the Palestinians.

Much of Italy's booklets focuses on different Italian influences in Europe and Africa, which includes Colonialism of Africa not only by the Italian governemnt, but also the British, French, Spanish, and the Dutch, Italy's involovement in Libya, Corporative agriculture and industry, and the history of the Island of Corsica.

Japan relations with China had been strained since the turn of the twentieth century. The booklets in this collection focuses on the Second Sino-Japanese War which occured from 1937-1945. The propaganda focuses on Japanese intentions on developing Chinese economic

Palestine, on the other hand, focuses on the relationship between the Jewish population and the Arab population in the Palestine region, while the booklet on Poland focuses on America's study on Russia's relationship with other countries, mainly focusing it on Poland.

Abstract

The National Propaganda Collection, 1933-1947 (bulk 1937-1940), documents English-language propaganda directed towards the United States in the years before, during, and after World War II. The records consist of pamphlets and booklets produced by or on behalf of Italy, Japan, Poland, and the Palestinians. Also included are three issues from 1936 of America's Town Meeting of the Air, an American periodical that published transcripts of a radio program in which social and political issues were discussed. This collection is arranged alphabetically by country and chronologically within each country.
