Originally titled Lycurgus between the years of 1945-1948, and published by the Department of Journalism and Advertising, it was shorted to Lyke in mid-1948. This publication was named after Lycurgus, the figure often attributed as the creator of Sparta's constitution in the seventh century BCE.
