Volume 1 is comprised of six (prints 001-006) oversized black and white mounted photographs depicting a range of ivories found in various repositories in Florence, Italy that date between the 14th and 16th centuries. Represented in this volume are images of the Nativity, the Virgin and Child and the Adoration of the Magi. Stone identified the negative number and art style and the period on the verso of each print.

The George E. Stone Photographic Collection was originally a three-volume set entitled "Ivories, Sculptures and Paintings," and documents Italian artwork prior to World War II (c.1941). Stone visited museums in Florence, Italy, and photographed selected early religious artworks, particularly, renderings of "the Holy Mother", saints, angels, and Christ as an infant and the resurrection.
